Positive Procrastination

My name is Colin Shannon and I engage in positive procrastination.

I recognize this as a problem and the reason for the cleanliness of my kitchen.

When I am punching out a major program I go through a process of writing one to two pages, then eating.  I usually have to cook something during this process.  I usually have to check whether the food I am about to eat has expired or not.

The first reason I found to get up and walk around my apartment was a sudden desire to take a daily vitamin, I neglected doing so this morning.  Before opening the little container, I examined the nutritional value and noted that the expiration date was August of 2011, it is still safe to consume.

The second reason I found to get up and walk around my apartment was a sudden desire to wash all of the dishes in the sink.  This is what I call positive procrastination, I probably heard it somewhere.  If I am able to do something productive without actually doing my project, I don’t feel bad about doing it.  After I washed the dishes I felt like eating a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich.  After examining the labels I noted that the jelly expires in July of 2012.  This is when I made the connection that daily vitamins expire before strawberry jelly.

This connection is the reason for my third bit of procrastination.  I simply could not work without letting the world know that vitamins expire before jelly.

There.  I said it.  Now I need to work on my project.
